Abstract Nigeria is a country that has multiple facets of culture and ethnicity. It is a country that came to be as a result of unification of many people from different ethnic backgrounds, religions and cultures. These differences in backgrounds gave rise to ethnic consciousness and religious dogmatism, which lead to ethnic sentiments and religious bigotry. These increased the zeal and quest to be in charge and gave birth to ethnic conflicts and religious extremism, spirit of intimidation, feeling of rejection and quest for disintegration, among others. The abuse of ethnicity, disrespect for human life and religion are seen as the major cause of the said tussles, and it needs to be put in place in order to avoid catastrophic situation. This calls for restructuring of the system to ensure peace, unity and integration. This paper identifies moral laxity as the major challenge facing Nigeria on national consciousness and therefore, aims at involving traditional religious and cultural values in restructuring Nigeria. Using descriptive and historical phenomenological methodology, the paper points out that Nigerians abandoned their cherished traditional norms and also neglected the moral values in the quest for power and supremacy at all costs, which gave rise to corruption. It is recommended that not minding the differences in ethnicity and culture, that Nigerians should appreciate and hold in high esteem the moral values of the traditional religion to ensure peace, unity and oneness. This paper concludes that restructuring involving traditional religious values will surmount the ineluctable agitations.

Abstract The paper examines the role of religious/moral education in sustainable economic growth in Nigeria. Many developmental programmes have been adopted by both past and present administration in Nigeria with the aim of bringing a sustainable development in the country but proved abortive. Survey methodological framework was used and observed that the neglect of religious/moral education in our national development plan is responsible for the inadequacies of economic growth. Some of these programmes put in place in order to boost the economy of Nigeria include Structural Adjustment Programme (SAP), Poverty Alleviation Programme (PAP), Operation Feed the nation (OFN), (NDDC), Niger Delta Development Commission, (WAI) War Against Indiscipline, (NHO) Non Governmental Organization and so on. These programmes were geared towards a sustainable economic growth in the country but have not yielded meaningful results because the root cause of the problem has not been adequately addressed due to the nations peculiar problem of corruption at all levels. For economic growth to be actualized in Nigeria there is need for moral re-awakening. The bain of our economic woes is inefficiency, nepotism, ethnic crises, leadership problems, misplacement of value, mismanagement which is caused by neglect of religious/moral education. The paper argued that for any society to be fully developed, religious/moral education has a key role to play in the lives of the citizenry to ensure meaningful economic growth.

Abstract Special education is a vital aspect of Nigerian education because it promotes the education of the handicapped children and enhances their status in the society. The reason is because the handicapped children, as Nigerian citizens have the right to be educated for them to be self- dependent rather than being social misfits. It is therefore the responsibility of the government, voluntary organizations and religious bodies to attend to the plight of these disabled children for the development of Nigerian society. This paper therefore examined the contributions of religious bodies to the education of handicapped children in gender to alleviate their sufferings. It also x-rayed the schools established by the government, but observed that the handicapped children in the society are not well catered for due to the few schools established which are not enough for their training. This paper adopted historical method which enabled the researchers to trace the genesis of the establishment of special schools for the handicapped in the nation. There are several handicapped children scattered all over the nation without formal education making them societal nuisance and totally dependent. Besides, most of these special schools are neither adequately funded nor fully equipped, for the proper education of the handicapped in order for them to contribute their quotas in the development of the nation. A number of recommendations were made which included the giving of moral instructions to the handicapped children and their parents in order for them to be well cared for and develop their full potentials.

Abstract The African continent has witnessed various crises raging from civil war, political unrest, regional conflict and other security challenges over the years and this has adversely affected the continent in various ways such as loss of lives/property, human displacement, humanitarian crises, insecurity, breakdown of law and order, breach of peace, suspiciousness and so on. This in turn has slow down the pace of development and economic growth in the continent. International organizations like ECOWAS, African Union, United Nation and other NGOs have intervened in bringing peace to the continent but the desired result is yet to be achieved. It is obvious that every continent crave for peace and security, as it is true that without peace there cannot be meaningful development. In the light of the above, this paper examines the role of religious education in achieving peace, security and sustainable development in Africa in the 21st century. Education is a means through which the individuals are formed and reformed through qualitative training and retraining of the human capacity capital, who are agents of development in the continent. The paper identifies factors affecting sustainable development in the continent as insecurity/conflicts and opines that there can be no meaningful development in the pace of insecurity, and posits that education is a determinant factor for development of any continent or region. Again, the paper discovers that the right value is integrated in the educational system through religious teaching. It reveals that the right change of persons is through religious education or moral value which is the prerequisite for developing in any region; as there is no nation that can rise above the quality of her education. And concludes that Africans can be mobilized and inspired through religious education that drives sustainable development in the continent.

Abstract The debate over same-sex marriage has been a prominent issue in our society. hence, this paper x-rayed the family, social and moral implication of same sex marriage. In doing this, the paper takes a cursory look at the sacredness of marriage, Same sex Marriage Debate in Historical Perspectives and finally the implications of same sex marriage on the family, morality and society. The paper concluded by noting that Strong, stable families, headed by a father and mother, are the anchor of society. When marriage is undermined by gender confusion and by distortions of its God-given meaning, the rising generation of children and youth will find it increasingly difficult to develop their natural identities as men or women. Some will find it more difficult to engage in wholesome courtships, form stable marriages, and raise another generation imbued with moral strength and purpose.
